Well…it’s been a nice run. I’ve been very lucky to have a kind employer who was willing to allow me over one year unpaid leave after the birth of my third child. Two summers home with my kids. For the first time ever, a whole year to wait at the bus stop for the kids to come home. A fantastic vacation with hubs and Bae to Holland. Walks to the park. And the opportunity to pursue my own new favorite hobby – blogging.
It’s very rare in the good ol’ USA to have such an understanding and forward thinking employer (who, being an anonymous blogger, I can’t name, and who don’t know about my blog anyway…). I can tell you it’s not Hobby Lobby.
And so, this week, on the very day that the kids head into Grade 1 and 4, I headed back to work. And little Bae headed to day care for the first time. Unlike when Flower and Puck went for their first day – I was OK with it. Until today. Day two. When I went to pick him up. He saw me and screeched and practically flew over to the baby gate. And when I picked him up – he gave me a look that pretty much said – “I didn’t know this was going to be a daily thing – what are you thinking???” My heart broke. But I have to work – we have three kids to feed and clothe and put through college.
I’m not going to stop writing for fun (as opposed to the writing I do at work). I’ve discovered something I truly love doing – and I hope that you all have been enjoying as well. I’m going to try to keep up a post every couple of days. It will be a little bit harder to juggle. I’ll have work to contend with on top of child care and cleaning the house and making meals. But it’s something for me. Something I enjoy doing. So I’m going to put forth a concerted effort to make time.
I’ll apologize in advance. My posts might get a little shorter. But I’ll do my best to keep the quality up. And certainly, my interactions with the Goblin King aren’t going to lessen any time soon (and given the first two days of school are over already, it’s going to be a “fun” year) – so lots of blog fodder available.
Wish me luck!
