My Telltale Post - #NaBloPoMo

The steady rhythmic throb.

Thump, thump, thump…the sound is deafening and quickens with footsteps above.

The steps pause, as knees drop.

A scratch, a bump.

The floorboard shifts and light catches my stilled cadence.

“She’s dead.  I’ve found her heart.”

  1. Very Poe-etic!!! Love it! When writing about the heart, my thoughts never stray far from the master of the macabre.

  2. Wait…what just happened??? The heart is still throbbing and beating…under the floorboards??? What the hell! That is just creepy. Now I am crawling with goose flesh. Not sure why I envision Captain Jack Sparrow finding the beating heart. Maybe just a bit too many views of Dead Man’s Chest?? LOL Nice!

  3. Thump thump thump… the sound is defeaning.
Like that line. How such a soft sound becomes too loud in such situations.
