Simian Antics

The prompt on this week’s haiku horizons is “monkey”. Of course, I’m intimately acquainted with the species, having given birth to three of them. My poem this week is also inspired by a sick day home with my youngest.

Monkeys swing from branches
Mine lies ill in his soft bed
I try to cheer him.

He resists at first
Then his giggles betray him
He’s getting better!

By the setting sun
He’s aping about the house
Monkey’s out of bed.

  1. aww… so cute… reminds me of the antics by my lab Bella :-p

  2. I loved it your haiku cascade! It brightened my day! I gave birth to four monkeys two that are teens now. Believe me teenage monkeys are just as mischievous as younger ones. But they are fun and delightful, too.

I believe it. I’ll be finding out shortly – my eldest is ten…I don’t know if I’m looking forward to it or not… ๐Ÿ˜‰

  3. You are so benevolent ! Keep up the good work ! BTW I like your chain of cascading haiku !

  4. Aw, made me smile. I hope Little-Monkey feels better soon.

  5. Aw! I’m glad he’s getting better.
And I think that sun setting later and later is making us all better.

I think so too. Now if the thermometer would start heading in the other direction it would be perfect.

  6. That’s such a cute one! I hope the cute little monkey gets well soon ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. Adorably cute!

Even when my monkeys become howlers with prehensile tails that help them swing from the lights they still become cute pajama wearing fuzzy monkey blobs before bed. ๐Ÿ˜€

      1. At times I feel like Jane Goodall. After many years of research and patient watching, I finally establish a sense of basic communication and a seemingly stable respect for the rules and boundaries we’ve created.
Then they grow older and I retreat behind the camouflaged leaf covered blind once again to take notes and wait for my next chance of intelligible and acceptable communication. ๐Ÿ˜‰

      1. To write good haiku
        I believe is a science
        Portrayed as art form

        The poet in me
        Becomes too distracted
        And misses the point

          1. Playful, I adore
Do commas count or can I
            Play with those as well?

          2. I wonder, though, if they
            Somehow counted; displacing
            Another syllable…

            It’s just a short breath
A hush instead of a sound
            No appended thought.

          4. In music it counts
            It alters the rhythm so
            Changes the whole beat
