It’s been a while since I’ve dipped my feet into the #AskAwayFriday pool, so I’m going to jump back in today! What is #AskAwayFriday?
#AskAwayFriday was created by the amazing Penny from Real Housewife of Caroline County and Amber from Bold Fit Mom, as a way to connect with other bloggers with ten questions and ten answers, between two bloggers! This is a wonderful opportunity to get to know others while allowing others to get to know you and of course there is also the added bonus of making great friends along the way which is one of the best parts of this online world!
This week I’ve traded questions with the lovely Miranda Gonzalez.
Her blog is “From Rahab to Riches”. She’s a homeschooling mommy of five who runs an Essential Oils business from home to increase her families income. Check out her answers to my questions here.
I have very fond memories of my grandma also. What is the first memory that comes to mind of her?
This is terrible…but Gran had a deathly fear of electricity and thunder storms. If there was a thunder storm, she’d unplug the TV and hide under her bed. Well into her eighties. I’m not sure if she did this when my dad was young, but we weren’t allowed to come over if there was a storm. Ever. I’m not even sure why she just unplugged the TV, given there were a number of other electrical devices in her house.
One time, my cousin turned on the kitchen light at precisely the same time that Gran was flipping the switch on the stove and it completely freaked her out (she thought she’d triggered some sort of electrical fault by turning on the stove). She laughed afterward (as did we), but I think sometimes about how that fear and her anxiety limited her.
We must have a lot in common because I met my second husband when he was my boss as well. Was it hard working for someone that you were dating?
Hubs was smart enough not to ask me out while I was actually working for him. I was working in a different area on a special project when he finally gave in (he thinks it was all his idea). We ended up working together again after we’d already figured everything out (they changed my reporting requirements) – and by that time, everyone at work knew about it. We work in different departments in the same building now. Now, it’s a breeze. I love to work with him – and if he’s out at training or meetings out of the city, I miss him.
What food could you eat everyday without getting tired of it?
This is a hard question for me to answer today, as I’ve had a bit of a stomach bug and haven’t eaten much other than tea and water for the past couple of days. I did have a stroop waffel (it’s a Dutch cookie) last night. It’s easy on my stomach and I’m happy to say not bad when you’re sick. I could eat one a day without becoming tired of it.
Would you repeat high school if you were given the chance?
No. I hated high school. I would love to continue University/College courses indefinitely – and have upgraded my skills regularly with several diplomas, certificates and a degree since I left. I love to learn. If I could take the time, I’d get my Masters.
If you had to move to another country, which would you choose and why?
That’s a hard choice. I loved Holland…but spiders. I’ve done Italy, France and England as well. Oh…and Canada. I have a very limited pick from that view. If I had my choice it would have to be somewhere warm. If I had the money, maybe the Isle of Capri in Italy. It’s beautiful there. I’ve never been to Greece, but hubs has described his journeys there. I suspect that would make my list as number two.
What is the best advice anyone could give to a new mom?
Trust your gut. You know what’s best for you and for your children. No matter what anyone else says.
Do your children call your husband “dad”, and if so, how long after you guys got together did that take?
Bae calls him dad – because he is his dad. But my other two have a father, and that’s what they call him. They call my husband by his first name, but it’s gotten more affectionate over the years.
How do you spend your free time, besides blogging?
Free time, what’s that? If I have free time with the kids, we go bike riding or to the park or the local swimming pool. We also take long walks with the dog. In the winter, I bake a lot. Now that I have a KitchenAid stand mixer, we’re making our own bread. And the pasta attachment means fresh spaghetti too!
If you could meet anyone in all of history and ask them just one question, who would it be and what would you ask?
OK…so this is a little different than what you asked, but if I could, I’d love to meet Vincent Van Gogh. I don’t know if I’d ask him a question. But given all of his psychological problems, I would love to just give him a hug and thank him for bringing such beauty into the world.

“The Gambler” by Kenny Rogers. I’m not sure why, but it reminds me of my Uncle who died of a sudden heart attack in his early fifties – about a month before Puck was born. We have a big family Christmas party every year and all clean up together – and sing. This was one of the songs. I don’t remember him starting it, but I do remember him singing it. So I guess that’s why it reminds me of him.
